Reviews Watching The Closing Sky (9 out of 15) Progressive Newsletter -  Wolfram Ehrhardt (review in German) The opening track ‘Changing legacy’ of this just 37 minutes long debut CD reminds me very strongly of Porcupine Tree. The overall performance of these seven minutes with their atmospheric sound arches, rhythmic rock attacks and a voice similar to Steven Wilson let our neighbors from the Netherlands appear almost as a clone. In the following three compositions, they show a wider sound spectrum, which is mainly located in the new art rock, but also have psychedelic and neo-progressive elements implemented.. Melancholic and atmospheric moods alternate continuously with eruptive sound attacks, providing a varied sound. The keyboards are responsible for the spherical soundscapes, while the guitar playing also brings a delicate-melodic to floating-rocking sound. The sentimental melancholic vocals of guitarist Raoul Potter fits in well with the music. The 14 minuts long track ‘SCITS’ shows exhaustively in an appealing manner previously described mood and mix of styles, but also floydsche keyboard bonds can be heard in this track. Overall, ‘Watching the closing sky’ is a very nice disc, where the melodies also remain liable. ORIGINAL REVIEW Der Eröffnungstrack „Changing legacy“ dieser gerade mal 37 Minuten langen Debüt-CD erinnert mich doch sehr stark an Porcupine Tree. Die gesamte Darbietung dieser sieben Minuten mit ihren atmosphärischen Soundbögen, rhythmischen Rockattacken und einer Stimmenähnlichkeit zu Steven Wilson lassen unsere Nachbarn aus den Niederlanden schon fast als einen Klon erscheinen. In den folgenden drei Kompositionen zeigen sie dann ein breiteres Klangspektrum, das zwar hauptsächlich im New Artrock angesiedelt ist, aber auch psychedelische und neoprogressive Elemente aufgreift. Melancholisch atmosphärische Stimmungen wechseln sich immer mal wieder mit eruptiven Soundattacken ab, so dass für Abwechslung gesorgt wird. Die Keyboards sind für die sphärischen Klangwolken verantwortlich, während das Gitarrenspiel ebenfalls von feinfühlig-melodiös bis zu treibend-rockig ertönt. Der gefühlvoll-melancholische Gesang von Gitarrist Raoul Potters passt gut zur Musik. Der 14minütige Longtrack „S.C.I.T.S.“ zeigt abschließend auf eine ansprechende Art und Weise den vorher beschriebenen Stimmungs- und Stilmix, wobei auch floydsche Keyboardanleihen zu hören sind. Insgesamt ist „Watching the closing time“ eine ganz nette Scheibe, wo auch die Melodien haften bleiben. (0 comment(s))
