| Watching The Closing Sky |

The gods must have abandoned me, as I outline another progressive rock band. We know this genre is not among my favorites. However, and noblesse oblige, I bite the bullet and enter the universe of large topics and intricate themes. Profuna Ocean is a Dutch quartet and this is their debut CD, an album with only four tracks which round about 40 minutes long. The band is playing relaxed psychedelic rock without any fanfare in which you recognize influences of Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, REM and even Radiohead. Unlike other groups the music sounds calm, quiet and simple atmospheres prevail.
Although I don’t like this genre of music, it’s a fact (incredible!) that ‘Watching The Closing Sky’didn’t bored me at all. The potential and good ideas leaves me with the feeling that we’re witnessing a decent and humane album where the songs are privileged above instrumental masturbation as done by 99% of the prog bands.

Los dioses me deben haber abandonado, ya que debo reseñar otra banda de rock progresivo, sabido es que dicho genero no esta entre mis favoritos. No obstante y nobleza obliga, hago de tripas corazon y me adentro en el universo de los temas laaaaarrrrggooooossssss y temas intrincados. Profuna Ocean es un cuarteto holandes y este es su debut absoluto, un album de solo cuatro temas que redondean casi 40 minutos de duracion, en los cuales se deja entrever que la meta de la banda es practicar un rock psicodelico relajado y sin estridencias, en los cuales hay influencias de Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, R.E.M. y hasta Radiohead, donde las tranquilas y sencillas atmosferas predominan por sobre el virtuosismo, que a diferencia de otros grupos aqui luce sosegado. Aun cuando como ya dije este género no me gusta demasiado, lo cierto es que (increible!) este "Watching the closing sky" no me aburrio para nada, se advierte potencial y buenas ideas, y me deja la sensacion que estamos en presencia de un disco decente y humano, donde se privilegiaron las canciones por sobre el onanismo instrumental en el que caen el 99% de las bandas progresivas.
